Civil War Sites

Larger Military Park

The Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park has been expanded as of this summer. The Civil War Trust and Central Virginia Battlefields Trust has helped the National Park Service purchase a nine acre site that has been in private hands since the Civil War.

Willis Hill, in the heart of Marye’s Heights, central to the battle of Fredericksburg, was purchased for $1.65 million. At this time 2 acres have been opened for use and provide a panorama of Fredericksburg and the battle scarred Willis family cemetery.

The entire park covers 9,000 acres and encompasses the battle sites of Chancellorsville, Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House as well as Fredericksburg. For information, call 540-371-0802.
