Information and schedule below for the public and reenactors
Hello all,

Due to the expected high winds on Thursday, re-enactors who were
intending to setup Thursday may sleep in the barn or farm house that night and
setup Friday morning.

I am attaching some maps to the site.  Basically, take HWY 151 to Exit
65
(State Road 78), go south on 78 and turn into the second driveway on the
right. Parking will be along the farm roads.

The school presentations begin at 8:30 a.m., please be setup by 8 a.m.,
on Friday. The party starts at 5 p.m. Friday night. It will be pork chops.
Lunch is also provided on Friday.

We open to the public at 9 a.m. on Saturday and close at 4 p.m.

We are advertising in the Capital Times, Wisconsin State Journal, Mt.
Horeb Mail, Verona Press and some other weekly papers and shoppers.

We have over 2,200 students coming on Friday.  Please come. We are
particularly busy between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you can't get away for
the whole day, maybe you can be there for a few hours?

It looks like we will be short on infantry to drill.

Gentlemen
Company K of the Second Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry is sponsoring a Civil War living history event
on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13, 2006, in  Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, west of Madison.
As you may know, the Second Wisconsin Infantry Association has chosen this event to be the company
maximum effort event for 2006.
Company K needs as many reenactors as possible to participate at this event.  More than 2200 students
from different parts of  Wisconsin are signed up to attend.  The students are elementary and middle school age.
This is the fourth year that Company K has held this event and it's a great opportunity to educate young
people on the Civil War.
We receive a lot of positive feedback from the students and teachers that this is an excellent way to bring
history to life. We particularly need more reenactors in order to more effectively present infantry drill and
teach the kids to drill with wooden muskets.

Details on this event are as follows:
Dates:  Friday, May 12:  Reenactors are requested to be on site by 8:00 am.
School tours start at 9:00 am and end by 4:00 pm.
The camp will be open to the general public from 5:00 to 8:30 pm.

On Friday, scheduled school groups will rotate through different stations set up
on the following topics:

  • A Soldier's Life/History of the
    Second Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment
  • Infantry Drill demonstrations
  • Student Infantry Drill with wooden muskets, directed by a reenactor(s)
  • Artillery firing demonstration
  • Cavalry demonstration
  • Civil War surgery
  • Women in the Civil War

The presentation at each station lasts 15 minutes and cannon fire signals when it's time for the student
group to move to the next station.

Five minutes travel time for the student groups are allowed between stations. Each station will receive
one 20 minute break for lunch.

On Friday, lunch will be prepared and served.  Rations, including beer and other liquid refreshments,
will be provided for the Friday evening meal and reenactors will prepare the food themselves.

In appreciation for reenactors attending the Friday School Day Event, Company K will provide a bounty
of $15 per soldier who attends on Friday, May 12.  A check will be issued to each Company for their
participants in order to avoid the hassle of writing individual checks.

Friday is the critical day, the day Company K most needs additional reenactors
to come out. Saturday, May 13:  Reenactors are requested to be on site by 8:30 am.

The camp is open to the general public from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Saturday's event will not be as
formally timed.  The same stations will exist, but spectators are invited to wander from station to
station on their own timetable.

Directions to the Event:  Please refer to the maps attached to this e-mail.
Take Highway 18/151 to Exit 65, turn south on State Road 78 and it is the
second driveway on the right.  Reenactors can unload their vehicles on site
and then move their vehicles to a different location on the farm.

This is our opportunity to reach a massive number of students in one day--
more than 2200 young people are coming to this event on Friday!

On behalf of Company K, we thank our Brothers in Arms for your help.
