January 1999

From: Richard Elliston (UK)

Hi, Just a quick note To the Second Wisconsin.
Hope you had a good new year, and how's the snow?

We had reports that it has been really bad in your part of the world this year.

Hope you weren't snowed-in or suffered any power cuts or anything like that.
Over here, we get about 1 or 2 days of snow a year and the Country grinds

to a halt.
I suppose we're not as prepared for it as yourselves.

All the Best Dickie

Happy New Year to all who came to visit the 2nd Wisconsin!
I think the best part of CWRing is conjuring up a hunk of wood, parkin' it
under awry backside and chawin with the best of'em...comrades of the
ragged(weary backsides) 2nd!
And what better place then getting it off the ground then right here. '98 was
NOT my year for reenacting but I did catch a couple that meant a lot to me
at the time; Camp Randall's "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and the
weekend in my back yard at the MacKenzie Environmental Center just east of
Poynette. That Camp Randall thing really touched home as I "tagged" three
bases where my great-grandfather had been during the actual war itself;
Camp Randall -Shiloh - Andersonville Prison. The only one I missed in making
it a home run was the Siege and Battle of Corinth (MS) which I hope materializes
before they lay me to rest. Camp Randall's highlight was where Susan Johnson
and my charming daughter went in cahoots and Lori(Bessler) approached me
at the State Capitol just before the speeches and pinned me. Lori was wearing
a most beautiful period dress (all inpink) and completely surprised me.
I'm really looking forward to a much more active 1999 and hope to see
as many of you as can get out.
