Letter from Chauncey
Aug. 1, 1865
A letter that Chan wrote to Horace while being held
prisoner.
On the last page of the letter Horace wrote: Yes -- Mother wrote to
Mrs. Gen. Sherman when Mrs.G. S. was at Chicago & Mrs. G. S.
soon started to make Gen. Sherman a visit. And it was Mrs. G. S. that
curtain lectured Tecumseh to have Chan turned loose and Chan's Captain
court marshaled & drummed out of the Army.
And a note written by Horace in 1910, to the end
of the second page.
"Yes, we owe our dear Mother for whatever
manhood we ever had". Horace 11-24-1910 . |
