William Lyon
Captain, Co. K, 8th Wis.

 

Wm Penn Lyon, Captain, Co K, Eighth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, was born in Columbia Co., New York. At the time of his enlistment in September of 1861 he was 39 years old, married and an attorney, He was sworn in by Gov. Randall at Racine. He was a striking figure at 5' 10 1/2" tall with black hair and eyes and a dark complexion. His commission from the Gov. was given Sept. 17, 1861. He commanded the company from Frederickstown, Mo in Oct. of '61 through New Madrid, Island No. 10, Farmington, and both the siege and battle of Corinth. He resigned Sept. 7, '62 to become Colonel of the 13th WI. as on the first of August, 1862, Col. Maloney of the 13th was recalled to take command of his company in the Regular service.

Colonel Lyon, left the 13th WI. Regiment, for Wisconsin 10th of September 1865, his term of service expired.
